How to become a skydiver

The process of becoming a fully-licensed skydiver is actually quite simple and can be done in five simple steps. These steps are fully laid out here, so you know what to expect and what to be prepared for.

1

Apply for a course

Hey, you've already started this step just by being here! Take your time to explore, learn everything you need to know, gather your courage, and fill out the registration form. Stop dreaming about what your life could be - it's time to start living your dream!

2

Get your medical certificate

Once you've submitted your application and our team has reached out to you, the next step is getting your medical certificate. No worries - we've got you covered! We'll provide a list of institutions in Croatia where you can obtain your LAPL medical certificate, or you can book it along with your course.

3

Gain theoretical knowledge

Now things are getting exciting! Over a few days, we'll teach you everything you need to know to safely perform your first jump. From the moment you put your gear on for the first time to the moment you earn your A license - it's all covered.

You'll learn about relevant legislation, your equipment, meteorology, emergency procedures, jump theory, and so much more!

At the end of the course, you'll take a theoretical exam (which we have no doubt you'll ace!). Once that's done, you'll be fully prepared to take the leap - literally - and start your real skydiving adventure.

4

Jump the required jumps

This is it - the real deal! You've got the theory down, now it's time to put it into action. Under expert supervision, you'll step out of an airplane for the very first time. After each jump, we'll debrief you, provide feedback, and give you new assignments. Complete the required jumps, and you'll be ready to go for your A license.

We take an individual approach with every student, ensuring a stress-free and supportive environment. There's no pressure to complete your jumps within a set timeframe - go at your own pace. We'll be here every step of the way, offering guidance, rooting for you, and helping you become the best skydiver you can be!

5

Pass your A license exam

The grand finale! After all your hard work, it's time to drop the 'student' label and officially join the world of licensed skydivers. The best part? With your A license, you can jump anywhere in the world. Spain? Pack your rig. Somewhere more exotic, like Dubai? No problem - bring your rig (or rent one).

By now, you'll be more than ready to nail your skydiver license exam jump with confidence. Once you pass, we celebrate. But fair warning - you're buying!

Two Ways to Take the Leap: Static Line or AFF?

At Skydive Academy, we believe the sky is for everyone. That's why we offer two different paths to becoming a licensed skydiver: Static Line (SL) and Accelerated Freefall (AFF). Both get you to the same breathtaking destination - flying solo with your A license - but the journey is as unique as you are.

So, which one feels right for you? Let's break it down:

Static Line (SL)

Your first jump is from a lower altitude (around 1000m), and your parachute opens automatically as you leave the plane. This allows you to focus on mastering your body position and steering your canopy while staying calm and in control.

As your skills grow, so does your altitude - until you're confidently freefalling on your own.

Perfect for:

  • Those who prefer a slower, step-by-step approach
  • Building confidence before freefall
  • Learning at a steady pace

Accelerated Freefall (AFF)

From your very first jump, you're all in - exiting at full altitude (around 4,000m) and experiencing freefall under the watchful eyes (and hands!) of two highly trained instructors. You deploy your parachute yourself and start building freefall skills right away.

AFF is fast, intense, and incredibly rewarding.

Perfect for:

  • Adrenaline-seekers ready to feel the rush
  • Those wanting to progress quickly
  • Students excited to freefall from day one

Your Journey, Your Pace

Whether you take the gradual SL route or the immersive AFF experience, we'll be by your side every step of the way - from your first briefing to that magical moment you earn your license.

The question is simple: Do you want to start gently and grow into the sky or are you ready to jump straight into the clouds?
